What is WonderQuest?
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” –Plutarch
WonderQuest is GTA’s Theatre for Young Audiences division and is the only North Georgia organization dedicated to high-quality theatre for children and families. Our passion is to lighting the fire of the mind!
Unlike TV, movies, or computer games, theatre is alive. WonderQuest combines live performance and literature, igniting our audiences with colorful, meaningful productions. We aim to spark critical thinking and imagination within students, inside and outside the classroom.
Our productions take place in Brenau University’s historic Pearce Auditorium, a 19th century opera house, for family audiences and over 7,000 students from schools throughout northeast Georgia. Performers interact with students after every performance. It is an experience like no other!

The Pirate Queen by Gay H. Hammond
Sep 29 & 30, 9:30 & 11:30 am
Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium
Young Gráinne Mhaol, the daughter of an Irish Chieftain, was born wild as the waves and wind, born to be a sea captain—if only she can convince the world of that! This magical Irish adventure is based on the legend of Grace O’Malley, Ireland’s “Pirate Queen.”
Resources for Teachers
PLEASE NOTE: School matinees are available through pre-registration only. We do not sell individual tickets for school matinees. To purchase tickets to public family performances, visit the current WonderQuest show page.
To help teachers enhance the educational experience, WonderQuest provides multiple resources to our patrons.
We understand the difficulties involved in field trip planning. For that reason, we offer risk-free reservations to our school matinees. Reserve seats for your class and pay nothing until September 1. Teachers can adjust seat numbers until final balance is due.
Free Study Guides
These full-color study guides make it easy for teachers to engage students with the story and characters, while addressing Georgia Performance Standards for core subjects. Study guides include discussion topics, writing suggestions, social studies pages, and science and math activities. Teachers with reservations will be notified via email when the study guide is available for download.
The first 10 teachers to make reservations are eligible for a free performance preview. A costumed member of the WonderQuest theatre company will come to your classroom to talk about the literature behind the play, the author, and some of the theatre secrets that make it come to life on stage.
