Field Trips

GTA for Young Audiences

In a time when screens have taken a huge toll on our young ones, it is imperative that we refocus their development to center around human connection. There is no greater way to engage, inspire, and recenter a new generation then by introducing them to the magic of live performance. Early theatre experiences foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts, strengthen communities, and encourage emotional intelligence and critical thinking. Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s Theatre for Young Audiences division, WonderQuest, strives to help educators facilitate the intellectual and cultural enrichment of young people using the transformational power of theatre arts.

Our productions take place in Brenau University’s historic Pearce Auditorium, a 19th century opera house, for family audiences and over 7,000 students from schools throughout northeast Georgia. Performers interact with students after every performance. It is an experience like no other!

There are two sides to every story, and when the Big, Bad Wolf takes the stand in Piggsylvania’s Trial of the Century, he finally gets his say. But whether he’ll get a fair trial in a corrupt piggy court is anyone’s guess. Will the pigs’ splashy puppet show make a puppet out of justice, or is the wolf’s catchy song and dance about a sneeze gone wrong all razzle-dazzle? Enter the jury box and decide the fate of the Big, Bad Wolf in this musical adaptation of the hit children’s book. GTA is excited to present our first Theatre for Young Audiences musical!

We provide multiple resources to help teachers enhance the educational experience.

Risk-Free Reservations

We understand the difficulties involved in field trip planning. For that reason, we offer risk-free reservations to our school matinees, with the option to add or drop seats or cancel without penalty. Reserve seats for your students and pay nothing until September 1.

Free Study Guides

These full-color study guides make it easy for teachers to engage students with the story and characters, while addressing Georgia Performance Standards for core subjects. Study guides include discussion topics, writing suggestions, social studies pages, and science and math activities.

Performance Previews

The first 10 teachers to make reservations are eligible for a free performance preview. A costumed GTA representative will come to your classroom to talk about the literature behind the play, the author, and some of the backstage secrets that make the show come to life on stage.
